I am probably the worst at sales when it comes to art. There is just so much appreciation that someone would like the work, I want to give it all away if someone were so inclined to want to put it in their house. This is not the proper business approach and the complete opposite happens when a sale is made. Once a painting is sold I owe it to the folks that bought the painting to keep the value of the work progressing. It is the folks that have bought a piece that the artist is now working for. They are the ones that make this possible to help shape this world with an idea and concept to adorn their home and allow for fly cast painting to have a carved out place in the world. When the world is looked at in this manner with appreciation for allowing the system to be set up the entire structure for everything works in this manner. A funny idea is to stop literally anyone and present them with a painting and ask how much they would pay for this piece. The usual joke would be you couldn’t pay me to hang that piece in my house. Then shell out some money and pay the folks to hang it in their home just to make a sale.
An 18”x24” Acrylic on Polycarbonate Fly Cast Painting on a world renowned blue ribbon trout stream with a five layered resin depiction of a local guide caught trout, and hand tied fly integrated into the piece with a solid single wooden douglas fir frame that is burnt to enhance the rustic appeal of the grain and with the spacing, allow for the shadowing on the wall as well as secondary layer of polycarbonate overlay with resin to translate the uneven refraction marks not only on the painting but the wall itself.
That is what I would like to say to everyone if they had an ear to listen for it. The best part about trying to describe the work is have them explain it back to you and get exactly what you are trying to show in your work but more importantly is the fact that the concept is understood. In the end as long as there is an appreciation for the work in some regard is what makes art unique and almost unable to pin on one definition. It is only an idea and only an idea that the artwork exists but so is everything else. It even isn’t necessarily the artist that puts the pieces into place for the work to be relevant in this world just the shoulders they set themselves upon that make it possible.
