At the Axtell Bridge on the Gallatin River the clouds were moving in and it was a matter of finishing the painting before the rains hit. The darker brooding colors are from that day, that leans heavily on Payne’s Grey when there is cloud cover overhead. The glare was on the water and getting color off the bottom of the river from the varying amounts of diverse rocks was hard to come by. When it comes to fishing and dealing with different conditions this style of painting is very much the same as recording the information a fisherman would witness that day. In the most straightforward manner this art concept encompasses this painting is a true example of conditions being perhaps less than ideal but recorded honestly as if standing on the river.
